The Santa Maria Water, under the City Utilities Department, provides water for about 106,280 residents living in the Santa Maria area. Established in 1905, the Santa Maria Water collects water from two sources of supply: City water wells located in the Santa Maria Airport area, and purchase supply from State Water treated at the Polonio Pass Water Treatment Plant by the Central Coast Water Authority (CCWA).
