The Walton County Water Department (WCWD) provides water for about 38,023 residents living in the area of Monroe, Georgia. Established in 1818, the Walton County Water Department currently obtains its supply primarily from the Lake Verner Reservoir, a surface water source. WCWD also purchases additional water supply from the following utility systems (and their sources): Oconee County (Well System and Bear Creek Reservoir), the City of Monroe (Alcovy River/John Briscoe Reservoir), and Gwinett County (Lake Lanier).
