The Portsmouth Water & Fire District provides water for about 17,090 residents in the Portsmouth area, Newport County, Rhode Island. Established in 1952, the Portsmouth Water & Fire District purchases water from the City of Newport, which draws water from nine surface water reservoirs - Lawton Valley Reservoir, Sisson Pond, St. Mary’s Pond, Nonquit Pond, Watson Reservoir, North Easton Pond, South Easton Pond, Paradise Pond, and Gardner Pond. Most of the water is treated at the Lawton Valley Water Treatment Plant in Portsmouth and occasionally treated at the Station One Water Treatment Plant in Newport.
