The City of Anaconda Water, a public community water system under the local government, provides water to about 6,750 residents living in Anaconda, Deer Lodge County, southwestern Montana. Founded in 1885, the City of Anaconda Water System currently obtains its main supply from groundwater sources, primarily six 12-inch city-owned wells that drill into the aquifer underneath the area. Additionally, Anaconda Water has a 5.5-million-gallon per day maximum capacity water storage tank. The secondary source is a surface water source with a combined 315-million-gallon storage drawn from Hearst Lake and Fifer Creek Reservoir.
