Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS)-Waipio Heights is a public community water system under a semi-autonomous agency governed by a seven-member Board of Directors. BWS provides water to about 11,516 residents living in Waipio, a census-designated place located in the Ewa District of the island of Oahu in the City & County of Honolulu, Hawaii. Founded in 1929, the Honolulu Board of Water Supply-Waipio Heights System currently obtains its supply from groundwater sources, primarily wells that drill into the aquifer underneath the area. On the island of Oahu, the drinking water begins as rain falls over the Koolau and Waianae mountain ranges. BWS operates and maintains over 94 sources with a total average of 145 million gallons of water a day with a distribution system composed of more than 2,100 miles of pipeline and 171 reservoirs.
