The City of Sullivan Water, a public community water system under the Water & Sewer Department, provides water to about 7,081 residents living in Sullivan, which crosses the border between the counties of Franklin and Crawford in Missouri. Founded in 1856, the City of Sullivan Water System currently obtains water from groundwater sources, primarily 11 wells that drill into the aquifer underneath the area though only seven of these wells actively provide for the water system; one is inactive, and the remaining three were already abandoned. Furthermore, the oldest well is Well #2 Light Plant, which was drilled in 1947, and the deepest of them all is Well #10, with a total depth of 1840 feet, drilled in 1996.
