The City of Washington Utility, a public community water system under the Water Division of the City Services Department, provides water to about 13,892 residents living in Washington, a city on the south banks of the Missouri River, 50 miles west of St. Louis, Missouri. Founded in 1839, the City of Washington Utility System currently obtains its supply from various sources: its main source is from nine groundwater wells; some are purchased from Public Water Supply District No. 1 of Franklin County.
