The City of Columbus Water, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works - Water Utility Service, provides water for about 22,630 residents living in the area of Columbus, Nebraska. Established in 1865, the Columbus City Water System is currently obtaining its supply from groundwater sources: 90% from wells that pump water from a large aquifer between the Scioto River and Big Walnut Creek. The remaining 10% is drawn from the wells in southern Franklin County.
