The Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission (MPWC), a water utility service operator co-owned by the Borough of Merchantville and Pennsauken Township, provides water for about 47,144 residents living in the area of Pennsauken, New Jersey. Established in 1926, the Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission is currently obtaining its supply from a groundwater source, 14 wells that tap the Potomac-Raritan-Magothy (PRM) Aquifer and transmits it to the MPWC’s six pumping stations. Also, a very small amount of water is purchased from New Jersey American Water Company (NJAWC), which uses water from three sources: surface water from the Delaware River and ground water from the PRM and Mt. Laurel-Wenonah aquifers.
