The Borough of Wharton Water supplies water to about 6,342 residents in the Wharton area in Morris County. The Wharton Water Department collects water from three wells in an unconfined Glacial Drift Aquifer Formation and purchases additional water from the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MCMUA), which obtains groundwater from two wellfields - Alamatong in Randolph and Chester Townships and Flanders in Mount Olive and Roxbury Townships. The MCMUA wells pump water from the Upper and Lower Stratified Glacier Drift and the Upper and Lower Leithsville Limestone Formations. The Borough of Wharton's water is chlorinated and aerated to remove organic compound contaminants, while the MCMUA's water is treated with sodium hypochlorite for disinfection and lime for pH adjustment.
