East Lowndes Water Association-Huckleberry, a non-profit water distribution company, provides water to about 6,706 residents living in Columbus, Lowndes County, on the eastern border of Mississippi. Founded in 1965, the East Lowndes Water Association-Huckleberry System currently obtains its supply from groundwater sources, primarily nine wells that drill into the Gordo and Massive Sand Aquifers underneath the area. Additionally, the system has two pump stations, five treatment plants, and eight elevated storage tanks.
