The Town of Kearny Water Department, a public community water system under the Town Department of Public Works, provides water for about 41,664 residents living in the area of Kearny Town, New Jersey. Established in 1899, the Town of Kearny Water Department System is currently obtaining its supply from a blend of surface water sources purchased via the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission (NJDWSC). NJDWSC uses water from the Wanaque Reservoir and Monksville Reservoir. Waters from Pompton and Ramapo Rivers are also pumped into the Wanaque reservoir as needed.
