The Natchez Water Works, a public community water system under the City Local Government, provides water for about 15,792 residents living in Natchez, some 90 miles (140 km) southwest of Jackson, the capital of Mississippi. Established in 1790, the Natchez Water Works System currently obtains its groundwater supply from four wells in the Lower Catahoula Formation Aquifer and one well in the Catahoula Formation Aquifer.
