The Yankton Utilities, a public community water system under the City Department of Services - Water, provides water for about 14,500 residents living in the area of Yankton, South Dakota, a city in and the county seat of Yankton County. Established in 1869, the City of Yankton Utilities Water System currently obtains its supply of groundwater influenced by a surface water source, the Missouri River Basin through the city-owned and operated Ranney collector wells.
