The City of Mustang Utility, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works, provides water for about 15,435 residents living in the area of Mustang, a city in the southeastern corner of Canadian County, Oklahoma. Established in 1901, the City of Mustang Utility System currently obtains its supply from groundwater sources, namely 11 wells that draw water from the Garver - Wellington Aquifer. Mustang City also purchases some water from Oklahoma City, whose surface water sources include Canton Lake in northwest Oklahoma, McGee Creek, Lake Atoka, and Sardis Lake in southeastern Oklahoma, as well as Lake Overholser, Lake Hefner, and Lake Stanley Draper in Oklahoma City.
