The City of Kelso Water, a public community water system under the City Department of Operations – Water and Sewer, provides water for about 15,255 residents living in the area of Kelso, a city in the southwestern part of the state of Washington and is the county seat of Cowlitz County. Established in 1843, the City of Kelso Water System is currently obtaining its supply of groundwater under the influence of surface water, which is a groundwater well that was constructed in 1978 located on the banks of the Cowlitz River.
