The King County Water District No. 54 supplies water to about 5,037 residents in Des Moines and the southern part of Normandy Park. Founded in 1935, King County Water District 54 collects water from four wells drawing from the Highline Aquifer, which is covered by 130 to 165 feet of glacial drift that functions as a natural filter. The water is disinfected with chlorine to control microbes.
