The University of New Hampshire (UNH) - Durham Water System, a state-owned public community water system jointly operated by UNH and the Town of Durham, provides water for about 16,000 residents living in Durham, a town in Strafford County, New Hampshire. Established in 1732, the University of New Hampshire - Durham Water System currently obtains its surface water supply from the following sources namely: UNH Surface Water Treatment Plant, owned and operated by the university supplied by the Lamprey River and/or the Oyster River, or the Spruce Hole Well; Lee Well, under the direct control of Durham Public Works Department located on Angel Road in Lee; and Spruce Hole Well, jointly owned between UNH and Durham.
