Established in 1956, the City of Cerritos Utilities is currently obtaining its supply from a groundwater source, three wells in various locations within the city that pump water from the Central Groundwater Basin. Cerritos maintains a connection to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) water system as a backup water supply whenever the demand arises.
