The CalWater (California Water Service) - East Los Angeles District provides water for about 151,279 residents living in the San Jose area. Established in 1928, the CalWater - East Los Angeles collects water from a combination of local groundwater (via 10 active wells), and surface water purchased from Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), which is obtained from the Colorado River and the State Water Project in northern California.
