The Garden Grove Water, under the City Public Works Department, provides water for about 176,277 residents living in the Garden Grove area. Established in 1874, the Garden Grove Water collects from a blend of mostly groundwater from 12 wells in the Orange County groundwater basin, managed by the Orange County Water District (OCWD), and surface water imported by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWDSC), which is a blend of State Water project water from northern California, and water from the Colorado River Aqueduct.
