The Georgetown Divide Public Utility District (GDPUD) provides water services to about 9,112 residents living in the Georgetown area of El Dorado County. The Georgetown Divide PUD, sited between the Middle and South Forks of the American River, was founded in 1946 under the authority of the California Public Utility District Act. The water supplied by the district flows from the Sierras in the Pilot Creek Watershed into the Stumpy Meadows Reservoir and then to the Walton Lake and Sweetwater Treatment Plants. It undergoes treatment processes such as coagulation, filtration, and disinfection with chlorine. The water from Walton Lake Facility serves the people in Georgetown, Garden Valley, Kelsey, and Greenwood, while the Sweetwater plant serves Cool and Pilot Hill residents.
