The EVMWD (Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District), through its Water Resources Division, provides water for about 156,030 residents living in the Elsinore area. Established in 1808, EVMWD collects water from a blend of local groundwater (Elsinore Municipal Wells and Temescal Division Wells via Coldwater Basin/Aquifer); surface water from Railroad Canyon Reservoir (Canyon Lake); and imported water through Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) via the Colorado River Aqueduct and State Water Project, which draws water from Lake Skinner and Lake Mathews, located in Temecula and Riverside respectively.
