Established in 1873, the Ventura County Waterworks District 1 – Moorpark currently obtains its supply from a combination of sources: (1) groundwater pumped from five local wells in the Las Posas Basin; and (2) surface water purchased from Calleguas Municipal Water District (CMWD), which is water transported from Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), a State Water Project contractor.
