Tuolumne Utilities District-Sonora-Jamestown, a regional water supply services district, provides water to about 10,396 residents living in Sonora, the county seat of Tuolumne County, California. Founded in 1992, Tuolumne Utilities District-Sonora-Jamestown System currently obtains its supply from two sources of water supply: 96% surface water supply starting at the South Fork of the Stanislaus River at Lyons Reservoir via the Tuolumne Main Canal by agreement with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). PG&E owns and operates Pinecrest Lake, Lyons Reservoir, and the Tuolumne Main Canal. and 4% from groundwater wells throughout our water system. Additionally, the District is comprised of 11 water service areas, which include 11 surface water treatment plants and 12 active wells.
