The Town of La Plata Water, a public community water system under the local government, provides water to about 9,500 residents living in La Plata, in Charles County, Maryland. Founded in 1888, the Town of La Plata Water System currently obtains its supply from groundwater sources. The water system has a total of five wells located in two areas. The four wells are located in the Lower Patapsco Aquifer, and the other one pumps from the Upper Patapsco Formation. Additionally, these wells are over 1000 feet deep.
