The Town of Thurmont Water supplies water to about 6,200 residents living in the Thurmont area of Frederick County. Thurmont Water Department operates three water treatment facilities and collects water from five wells, Well 4, 9, 7, and 8, that draw groundwater from the Frederick Limestone and Gettysburg Shale Aquifers. One of the wells (Well 3) produces groundwater under the influence of surface water, and the water from all sources is treated and disinfected with chlorine before distribution.
