The City of Chicopee Water System, under the City Water Department, provides water for about 55,144 residents living in the area of Chicopee, Massachusetts. Established in 1848, the Chicopee Water Department is currently obtaining its supply via purchase directly from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA), a public water and sewer services wholesaler, which draws water from surface water sources: Quabbin and Wachusett Reservoirs. Water from Ware River can also add to the supply when the demand arises.
