The Easthampton Water Department, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works Water Division, provides water for about 16,439 residents living in Easthampton, a city in Hampshire County, Massachusetts. Established in 1785, Easthampton Water Department System currently obtains its groundwater supply from the Barnes Aquifer system, a complex of several productive aquifers extending about twelve miles beneath portions of four communities: Westfield, Holyoke, Southampton, and Easthampton. Currently, there are five active wells that draw water from the aquifer in Easthampton; these are Nonotuck Park and Brook Street both located in Nonotuck Park, Hendrick Street wellfield and the Pines well, located off Hendrick St. by the Water Treatment Plant, and finally, the last, Maloney well, located off Lovefield Street is used primarily as a back-up source during times of high demand.
