Town of Merrimac Water, a public community water system under the Department of Public Works, provides water to about 7,072 residents living in Merrimac, Essex County, Massachusetts. Founded in 1876, the Town of Merrimac Water System currently draws water from groundwater sources, primarily wells that drill into the aquifer underneath the area. The water system has two wells located at separate locations: the Wallace Way Wellfield with a 240-gallon-per-minute pumping rate is off of East Main Street, while the Bear Hills Wellfield with a 280-gallon-per-minute pumping rate is on the Newton NH Line.
