The North Reading Water Department, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works, provides water for about 15,500 residents living in North Reading, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Established in 1936, the North Reading Water Department System currently draws groundwater from four active wellfields: the Lakeside Boulevard Wellfield, the Route 125 Well, the Railroad Bed Wellfield, and the Central Street Wellfield and maintains the Route 125 Well, the Railroad Bed Wellfield, and the Central Street Wellfield. In addition to these wellfields, North Reading maintains two active interconnections purchased from the Town of Andover that are used to supplement wells.
