The Northborough Water Department, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works, provides water to about 11,482 residents living in Northborough, a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts. Founded in 1766, the Northborough Water Department System currently purchases its surface water supply from two pristine reservoirs in central Massachusetts, the Wachusett Reservoir, 35 miles from Boston, and the Quabbin Reservoir, 65 miles from Boston, with a total daily average of 200 million gallons of pure water from these two interconnected reservoirs. The Ware River provides a backup water supply as the need arises.
