The Town of Sterling Water supplies water to about 6,814 residents living in the Sterling area of Worcester County, Massachusetts. The Sterling Water Department collects water from six gravel-packed wells at Redemption Rock Trail and Worcester Road. The water is treated with potassium hydroxide for pH adjustment, ultraviolet light to kill bacteria and other microbial contaminants, and chlorine as a backup disinfectant.
