The Swampscott Water Department, a public community water system under the Town Water and Sewer Department, provides water for about 14,793 residents living in Swampscott, a town in Essex County, Massachusetts. Established in 1852, the Swampscott Water Department System currently obtains its supply of purchased surface water from Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) that receives water from three sources namely: the Quabbin Reservoir, about 65 miles west of Boston, the Wachusett Reservoir, about 35 miles west of Boston, and the Ware River, in central and western Massachusetts.
