The Apache Junction Water District (AJWD), a special district formed by the Apache Junction City Council, provides water for about 13,657 residents living in the area of Apache Junction, a city in Maricopa and Pinal counties in Arizona. Established in 1994, the Apache Junction Water System currently obtains its supply from a blend of sources, including well water (groundwater) pumped from the Eastern Salt River Sub-Basin Aquifer and surface water from the Colorado River transported through the Central Arizona Project (CAP) canal system. AJWD can also receive CAP water from the City of Mesa’s Brown Road Treatment Plant delivered through an interconnect for a backup supply of water, if needed.
