The City of Scottsdale Water provides water for about 230,000 residents living in the Scottsdale area. Established in 1894, the City of Scottsdale Water collects supply from surface and groundwater sources. The surface water source includes the Central Arizona Project (CAP) carrying Colorado River water, and the Salt River Project (Salt River Valley Water Users Association) carrying Salt & Verde Rivers. The groundwater are from local wells drawing from aquifers deep below ground, use as back-up when demand arises.
