The Cambridge Water Department (CWD), a municipally owned and operated water utility, provides water for about 105,162 residents living in the Cambridge area. Established in 1630, the Cambridge Water Department collects water from both surface and groundwater sources through the city's three reservoirs, Hobbs Brook, Stony Brook, and Fresh Pond Reservoir, as well as the underground finished water reservoir at Payson Park in Belmont.

Lead levels in the drinking water of some cities across the United States are too high, potentially creating public-health issues for the people living in those areas.

What about Cambridge Water Department? How much lead is in your drinking water? And how do those levels compare to other cities in the state? We examined data from hundreds of cities across the nation to understand and grade your water quality.

As you can see, Cambridge Water Department received an above-average grade because the amounts of contaminants found in the water supply were lower than most other water providers we've analyzed.
