The City of Manhattan Water, under the City Department of Public Works - Division of Water and Wastewater, provides water for about 54,832 residents living in the area of Manhattan, Kansas. Established in 1857, the City of Manhattan Water Department is currently obtaining its supply from a ground water source, 20 wells that draw water from the alluvial aquifer of the Big Blue and Kansas rivers, east of the city.
