The City of Olathe Water provides water for about 133,062 residents living in the Olathe area. Established in 1884, the Olathe City Water fully relies on raw water supply from alluvial wells located along the Kansas River, east of De Soto, Kansas, where, the sand and gravel aquifer is directly connected to the Kansas River and relies on in stream river flows to maintain well production rates. The Kansas River well field has eight vertical wells and four horizontal collector wells.
