The City Tempe Water provides water for about 165,000 residents living in the Tempe area. Established in 1894, Tempe Water collects water from both surface water sources (purchases from Central Arizona Project (CAP) water, Salt River Project (SRP) water),  and groundwater supply (from city-owned wells), to supplement the surface water purchases.
