Dalton Fire District, a public community water system under the local government, provides water to about 6,330 residents living in Dalton, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. Founded in 1884, Dalton Fire District System currently purchases its supply from Cleveland Water Treatment Plant of the City of Pittsfield, a surface water source, through the main transmission to the distribution system and then to the three pump stations: Bay State, Housatonic Street and the Donn C. Elser Jr. Additionally, through an interconnection adjacent to the Dalton Division Road and Washington Mountain Road intersection, Pittsfield water from the Ashley Water Treatment Plant supplies the Washington Mountain Road and Kirchner Road areas. The two treatment plants draw water from six reservoirs: the Cleveland and Sackett in Hinsdale, the Ashley Lake, Farnham, Sandwash, and Lower Ashley Intake in Washington. Consequently, groundwater sources, primarily wells that drill into the aquifer underneath the area to supply the trailer park and Wahconah Fall Road area, are also available.
