Derry Borough Municipal Authority, a public potable water and sanitary sewer systems authority, provides water to about 6,500 residents living in Derry, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1943, the Derry Borough Municipal Authority System currently obtains its supply from various sources: McGee Run Dams, a surface water source collected from rainfall and snowmelt located on Chestnut Ridge, will then flow to the Ethel Springs Reservoir and into the water filter plant. Furthermore, a backup groundwater source is available, primarily a well on Chestnut Ridge that drills into the Mauch Chunk/Burgoon Aquifer underneath the area and is incorporated into the water system through a pipe to the McGee Run Dams and the Ethel Spring Reservoir. Consequently, another source is available in case of emergency: an interconnecting pump station with the Latrobe Municipal Authority in Derry Township.
