The City of Elk Grove Water District (EGWD), a water district under the ownership of the Florin Resource Conservation District, provides water for about 40,461 residents living in the area of Elk Grove, California. Established in 1893, the Elk Grove Water District System is currently obtaining its supply from a blend of sources: groundwater from local wells that pump from the Central Basin (Laguna or Modesto Formation and/or Mehrten Formation), and treated water from the Sacramento County Water Agency (SCWA), which comes from the American and Sacramento Rivers and local aquifers.
