The Ipswich Water Department provides water for about 13,610 people living in the Ipswich area of Essex County. Established in 1894, the Ipswich Water Department collects water from Dow Reservoirs, Bull Brook Reservoirs, and five groundwater wells: Mile Lane, Browns Wells (Parker River Watershed), Essex Road, Fellows Road, and Winthrop Estate Wells. The water system has treatment and distribution divisions and provides water for 98% of the local population.
