Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency-Castle Division, a public community water system under the local government, provides water to about 9,820 residents living in Santa Clarita, a California city north of Los Angeles. Founded in 1987, the Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency-Castaic Division System currently obtains its supply from a mix of sources. About 63% (42,683 acre-feet) of the total water system needs is drawn from State Water Project from the North California's Sierra Nevada then through the Santa Clarita Valle. Additionally, the other 37% are from two other sources: a 26,000 acre-feet groundwater sources primarily that drill into the aquifer underneath the local area; and 480 acre-feet recycled water or stored (banked) water. An alternate source for emergencies and drought is also available from stored (banked) water drawn from 114,000 acre-feet of water in nearby Kern County.Santa Clarita Drinking Water Quality
