The City of Taunton Water, under the City Department of Public Works - Water Division, provides water for about 58,088 residents living in the area of Taunton, Massachusetts. Established in 1864, the City of Taunton Water Division is currently obtaining its supply from a combination of six surface water sources and two wells that pump water from the Stratified-Drift Aquifers in Taunton River Basin. The surface water sources are: Assawompset Pond Complex (Assawompset, Pocksha, Great Quittacas, Little Quittacas, Long ponds), and Elders Pond.
