The Tisbury Water Works, a public community water system under the Town of Tisbury Boards & Committees, provides water for about 14,916 residents living in Tisbury, a town located on Martha's Vineyard in Dukes County, Massachusetts. Established in 1671, the Tisbury Water Works System currently receives its water from three supply sources: the Sanborn (Well #1), off Edgartown Road, is a 220-foot deep gravel-packed well, in operation since 1952, Tashmoo (Well #2) on W. Spring Street, is a 219-foot deep gravel-packed well, in operation since 1965 and Manter (Well #3) off Old Holmes Hole Road, is a 215-foot deep gravel-packed well and was put on-line in 2004. All are groundwater sources, wells that drill into the sole source aquifer underneath the island. An emergency interconnection with the Oak Bluffs Water District on Edgartown Road is available to ensure a constant supply of water.
