The Ventura River Water District supplies water to about 5,700 people in Ojai, Casitas Springs, Oak View, and Mira Monte Cities in Ventura County. Founded in 1956, Ventura River Water District collects water from six wells, ranging from 230 to 300 feet deep, drilled into an underground aquifer near the Ventura River and from two treated locations - Baldwin Tank #2 and Baldwin Yard Soft Water Sample. The wells are designated Well 01 (1989), Well 02, Well 03, Well 04 (2007), Well 06, and Well 07 (New). The District also maintains connections with five water systems to receive treated Casitas Lake water, which is used to serve the residents in Casitas Springs, Rio Via, and Monte Via in Oak View all year round, and other customers when the groundwater is unavailable. The water has a hardness of 378 to 433 mg/L and is fluoridated and disinfected with chlorine before distribution to the customers.
