The City of Stockton Water, through the Municipal Utilities Department (MUD), provides water for about 177,000 residents living in the Stockton area. Established in 1849, the City of Stockton Water collects from the following sources: (1) the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta, (2) the Mokelumne River purchased from Woodbridge Irrigation District, (3) local groundwater from city-owned and operated wells, and (4) treated water purchased from the Stockton East Water District (SEWD), imported from the New Melones (Stanislaus River) and New Hogan (Calaveras River) Reservoirs.
