The Illinois American Water – Champaign County District, a subsidiary of American Water Works Company, Inc. (NYSE: AWK), provides water for about 141,000 residents living in the Champaign area. Established in 1967, the Illinois American Water – Champaign County District collects water from groundwater from 21 wells that are primarily located in the Mahomet Sands Aquifer, supplying water for treatment to two lime-softening plants: the Mattis Ave Plant and the Bradley Ave Plant.
